This residence is designed for a retired professor and violinist who have been married for several years. In their spare time, they enjoy relaxing and entertaining. The design is inspired by Napa, a Northern Californian county known for its hundreds of hillside vineyards in the Napa Valley wine region. Because it is important to capture the clients' casually refined lifestyle, this design utilizes a combination of high end and natural elements to embody the elegant yet rustic feel that is displayed in a typical vineyard home.
Inspired by the resident's craft and Navajo roots, this design creates a space in which the resident can easily transition from living to working. The various types of weaves used on each gallery wall serve as differing modes of separation between public and private spaces wherein a tighter weave would create more privacy. This design also utilizes custom built-in shelving to display the resident's artifacts seamlessly against the gallery walls.
